Plan for library closure limited to 4 branches

Funding from the City of Boston increased by $650,000 to flat fund the library and keep all branches open an additional 9 months.  This resulted in the current Strategic Planning Process or Compass Phase II.

An amendment to the state budget that restricted funding if a branch library closes this year.

A Home Rule Petition introduced by Councillors Mike Ross, Ayanna Pressley, and Felix Arroyo to expand the number of Trustees on the board and expand their fund raising capacity.  However, the Mayor reneged on his promise to sign the petition in exchange for “Yes” votes on his resubmitted budget and the sponsors of the petition found now way to hold him to the promise.

Recent promise that an additional $325,000 would keep the branches open through June 30, 2011.
